Description:

The city had been required to reduce effluent color levels to aesthetically acceptable levels. Although biological treatment was anticipated to provide adequate treatment for color removal at the WWTP, an evaluation of alternative pretreatment options was required. Extensive laboratory studies were performed to determine the most effective method for color removal. Chemical coagulation and chlorination were evaluated. Chemical coagulation was determined to be the most cost effective method for pretreatment. Further evaluation of the municipal WWTP concluded that biological treatment adequately reduced the color generated by indigo dyes used. Pretreatment facilities were therefore not required.
