Description:

With global production of synthetic fiber increasing annually, there is increased flow of synthetic fiber entering into waste streams that can be reclaimed. Coupled with increased social and governmental pressure to reduce environmental impact, that is greater demand for recycled fiber and fabrics. Current efforts have been focused on recycling carpet and Polyethylene terephalate (PET) bottles, into fiber but little has been done to recycle post consumer PET textile products. With cost of recycling being one of the principle factors, this research simulates the cost of recycling PET using various chemcial and mechanical methods and models various logistical systems to supports closed loop recycling of post consumer PET textile products.
