Description:
|
An Energy Conservation Survey was performed. The total savings opportunities identified during the survey were $190,000.00.
As part of the survey Client requested an investigation of the natural gas consumption to determine if the billing was reasonably accurate.
The following conclusions were made as a result of the preliminary analysis.
• Based on calculation estimates, quantities billed do not appear to be unreasonable; and
• Metering needs to be installed in the plant for a true understanding of gas usage.
The following primary opportunities were identified and may be accomplished through utilization of plant maintenance resources:
• Reduction of compressed air leaks;
• Reduction of steam leaks;
• Elimination of failed steam traps;
• Increased cleaning frequency of air washer;
• Elimination of energized idle equipment; and
• Implementation of an energy conservation program.
The following additional opportunities were identified which will require capital investment:
• Installation of meters on boilers;
• Direction of boiler combustion air from ceiling;
• Installation of automatic blow down control;
• Installation of blow down heat recovery;
• Return of condensate to boiler;
• Insulation of exposed steam pipes;
• Installation of gas meters;
• Implementation of tenter exhaust humidity control;
• Replacement of inefficient lighting; and
• Implementation of data management and system optimization.
The opportunities shared included:
• Natural gas consumption and;
• Most energy efficient lighting with good color recognition.
The energy survey included a review of these areas as well as a review of other energy opportunities.
The Client's plant was a knitting, dyeing, and finishing facility. The primary equipment included knitting machines, dye jets, tenter frame, compactors, nappers, and a calendar. Energy utilization for the plant included natural gas, steam, compressed air, water, and electricity.
The review of energy opportunities included a compressed air generation and distribution system review, steam generation and distribution systems evaluation, HVAC system inspection, gas consumption analysis, lighting evaluation, and a plant walk-through to identify other energy opportunities.
